PRESS RELEASE;The Buhari Challenge

 

It has come to our attention that the Buhari government and the All Progressives Congress have been very idle of late, which explains their abandonment of the vital duties of running the government in order to focus on hurling insults and false accusations on the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar.

 

In order to give Nigerians the answers they want, we urge the Buhari Campaign Organisation to take the #BuhariChallenge and answer the following questions.

 

·  Name one project initiated, started and completed in the last three years by the Buhari administration.

·  Name one youth in President Buhari's cabinet.

·  Name one campaign promise President Buhari has kept.

·  Name one Southerner heading a National Intelligence Agency under Buhari.

·  Name one terrorist arrested, tried, convicted and imprisoned by the Buhari administration.

·  Name one Buhari government official arrested, tried, convicted and imprisoned by the Buhari administration over their many budget padding scandals.

·  Name one member of the Buhari administration fingered in corruption that was fired, arrested and currently facing trial.

·  Name one former President or Head of State that has not been blamed by President Buhari for the precarious state of the economy he led us into.

·  Name one year that Nigeria's GDP grew faster than her population under Buhari (for 16 years of PDP administrations, Nigeria's GDP always grew faster than population growth).

·  Name the initiatives the Buhari government has put in place to address Nigeria being named the world headquarters for extreme poverty under Buhari.

·  Name one initiative the Buhari government has put in place to address Nigeria having the world's highest number of out of school children (13.2 million according to the United Nations Children Fund).

·  Name the date the Ogoni cleanup will begin.

·  Name what President Buhari has done with the ₦13 trillion loans he has taken in 3 years (compared to the ₦6 trillion borrowed by the PDP in 16 years).

·  Name the real owners of the Ikoyi Apartment billions.

 

These are the issues the Nigerian people want to hear about, not insults from a Presidency and a party that have spent three years in office only to preside over Nigeria's first ever recession in 25 years.

 

We urge the Buhari administration to remember that it is this disinterest in real governance and focus on trivia that caused Bill Gates to look President Buhari in the eye and tell him that 'your economic blueprint does not address Nigerians' needs'.

l saw the tears of the oppressed and they have no comforter, power was on the side of their oppressors.—Ecclesiastes, 4;1.

 l read and meditated on what the preacher says in this chapter of the Holy Scriptures today and tears flow freely on my eyes .

Mr President, the game so beloved by the Nigerian political elite is going toward what is known in football as injury time. As all soccer fanatics know, it is indeed the most critical moment, distinguished by anxiety and acute uncertainty. Within the twinkling of an eye, anything can go wrong and invariably, things do go wrong.

Carefully laid down plans go up in smoke. 

The players themselves with tired limbs, declining vision and deteriorating coordination look towards the referees for early deliverance since events have conspired to make it impossible  to settle for a draw, and a clear winner must emerge; it is this fleeting moment that determines whether the match will end in penalty shoot-out or the phenomenon known as "sudden death".

This is the moment that has stolen upon us. As the country lurches and staggers from one crisis to another, as one measure is hurriedly abandoned for even more inept solutions, as the rule of law is recklessly abandoned at all levels of government for rule of man, it is clear that we are faced with what is known as an "organic crisis". 

Nations are also like human beings and when an affliction becomes terminal, when suffering is unbearably acute, when human misery is so stark and remorseless, it is time to consider the virtues of euthunasia.

 Looking through the glass, the Niger Delta crisis, herdsmen crisis, the Boko Haram insurgency, the high level of corruption and looting across in public service ,the police and lNEC who should be unbiased umpire becomes players, it is glaring that we have in our hands a classic recipe for organic crisis. That is why we must talk and act now . 

Regardless of the centrifugal forces that may be pulling Your Excellency  in different directions, restructuring  of the country is not negotiable. Our history is not our enemy but the way we deal or not with our history could be our enemy. A country that has not really faced its past cannot decide on her future.

Our forefathers spent many years like their counterparts in America deliberating on a people's constitution that would accommodate Nigeria's diversity. They came up with the 1960 and '63 constitutions. The constitutions addressed the derivative principle; the areas which produce the bulk of the nation's resources have the right to a significant proportion for the revenues collected from the region. Under the 1963 Constitution, the Federal Government was entitled to pay each region a sum equal to 50 per cent of proceeds of mining rents and royalty in respect of minerals derived from each region.

 The Federal Government was obliged to credit to the Distributable Pool Account (DPA) 30 per cent of the proceeds of the royalty and mining rent received by the Federal Government, after remitting 50 per cent to the producing region. The Federal Government was only entitled to keep for itself only 20 per cent. The 30 per cent in the Distributable Pool Account were shared among the regions based on population, size etc. Each region was assured that she entitled, as of right, to about half of the entire proceeds of its region and also a further part constituting its own share from the Distributable Pool Account, that was the position till 1966 with the advent of the military, the federal structure was dismantled and discarded.

 The fiscal system was also destroyed. These are the major outcome of military sabotage of the Nigerian federal system.Mr President, l do not belong to  the school of thought that the only quality upon which you need to run Nigerian well is good leadership. l believe that far more important than leadership are, solid political and economic structures. In other words, the structure of a house is far more important than the interior decoration. A good house must be able to withstand inclement weather and the rigour of reasonable existence; it must not be constantly under threat of collapse. In a normally functioning federal system where fiscal relations among the federating states are properly established, it should not be, for instance, the  responsibility of the Federal Government to make pronouncement  on policy issues like salary increase that are bound to disproportionately affect the states. 

For instance, workers of the old Western Region were paid a minimum daily wage of five shillings, well above what was paid at the federal level and other regions.. Today, it is however ironical that the oil  producing states and a highly commercial and industrial state like Lagos appear incapable of paying the level or above of wages being paid to federal employees. This is a manifestation of the distortion in fiscal federalism that needs to be corrected.

Mr President, if only successive military regimes have curbed their penchant for suspending and undermining parts or whole of the constitution that are very necessary for good governance and socio economic well being of the citizenry, may be Nigeria would have been saved these unnecessary crises that she presently finds herself. That is why we need a living constitution in order to settle all these anomalies. Thomas Paine, in his 'Rights of Man', 1789, which is generally acknowledged as validly stated; "A constitution has to be original act of the people. The people do ordain and establish… does not a mere echo of revolutionary sentiment." It reflects a confirmation, that America Constitution obtains its entire existent force and efficacy from the people to be governed by it. That is why our constitution does not command the sacred obsession and is being violated with impunity by the government , because it is an imposition of military arrangement.

 Mr President, the World is full of multinational states. Those that practice true federalism with full autonomy to federating units such as France, America or Switzerland, succeeded. Those that have failed, failed because they did not practice true and genuine federalism. They have run multicultural states along unitary lines and they have paid dearly for it.

The Soviet Union was formed in 1919, it disintegrated in 1989 after a span of 70 years. Yugoslavia was formed in 1919, it disintegrated in 1991 after 72 years. A great lesson for us to learn. If after more than 100 years of Nigeria's creation and  more than 58  years as an independent state and  she still appears to be an artificial creation or just a geographical expression as stated by the legendary philosopher, Pa Obafemi Awolowo in 1947, that confirms that our leaders are truly not committed to the concept of a just and equitable Nigeria.

In a relaxed federation, different states develop at their own pace as it was done during the First Republic. If Josif Tito had done this, there would still have been a Yugoslavia today.

 The major pillar democracy built upon is the rule of law that garuanteed power of select who govern the affairs of people by the people themselves without intimidation ,Your Excellency you will agree with me that what is going on in the ruling party,APC is purely coronation of people some few characters in the party selected.

Your by the time you are reading this letter you must have been coronated or selected again as the sole candidate of your party as a Presidential candidate ,l wish you best of luck ,but don't forget ,what posterity  will talk about you.

IMF Warns of another Global Financial Crisis, Talks about Rapid Crypto Development

The global financial crisis is coming, now warns IMF as it shares the global debt is skyrocketing and economies getting affected. It also talks rapid development of financial technologies that poses challenges to financial system. With the situation worse than at the time of 2008 crisis, will bitcoin and crypto play a role when "second Great Depression" hits the world?

World Debt Skyrocketing, Financial Crisis affecting Growth

Financial experts have already come out and spelled the upcoming Financial crisis in 2020. Now, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is warning about another financial meltdown. The causes for concern raised by IMF include a dramatic rise in lending and failure to impose tough restrictions on asset managers handling trillion dollar funds and insurance companies.

The global debt levels have reached well above the time of 2008 crash. Christine Lagarde, IMF head shares that the total global debt has surged 60% in both private and public sectors reaching the all-time high at $182 trillion which is another concerning point.

IMF stated:

"The sequence of aftershocks and policy responses that followed the Lehman bankruptcy has led to a world economy in which the median general government debt-GDP ratio stands at 52%, up from 36% before the crisis; central bank balance sheets, particularly in advanced economies, are several multiples of the size they were before the crisis; and emerging market and developing economies now account for 60% of global GDP in purchasing-power-parity terms – which compares with 44% in the decade before the crisis – reflecting, in part, a weak recovery in advanced economies."

Furthermore, this is all making the governments and companies of developing worlds more vulnerable to destabilization which according to Lagarde "should serve as a wake-up call."

The annual economic outlook of IMF in a separate analysis warns of the "large challenges" that loom over economies to prevent the "second Great Depression".

Bitcoin & Crypto Could Play a Role

IMF also talks about the rapid development of digital currencies like Bitcoin along with digital trading platforms as in IMF'sChapter 2 of the Global Financial Stability Report – Regulatory Reform 10 Years after the Global Financial Crisis: Looking Back, Looking Forward, it shares,

"Despite its potential benefits, our knowledge of its potential risks and how they might play out is still developing. Increased cybersecurity risks pose challenges for financial institutions, financial infrastructure, and supervisors. These developments should act as a reminder that the financial system is permanently evolving, and regulators and supervisors must remain vigilant to this evolution and ready to act if needed."

The upcoming financial crisis is coming according to experts and this is putting up the questions if Bitcoin will become the safe haven among the crypto enthusiasts.

IMF Appoints Harvard's Gopinath as First Female Chief Economist

IMF Appoints 1st Female Chief Economist

The IMF appointed Harvard professor Gita Gopinath as its next chief economist, making her the first woman appointed to the prestigious role.

Gopinath will replace Maurice Obstfeld, who announced in July that he'll retire at the end of this year. The appointment comes as the Washington-based fund grapples with issues such as a surge in protectionism around the world and the impact of technology on employment.

"Gita is one of the world's outstanding economists, with impeccable academic credentials, a proven track record of intellectual leadership, and extensive international experience," IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said .

Nigerian, Sentenced To Life In Prison In US

31-year-old Nigerian man, Chimene Onyeri, will spend the rest of his life in federal prison and will pay restitution of $178,374.41 for his financial crimes, U.S. District Judge, Lee Yeakel, said, on Tuesday, in downtown Austin. .

On April 26, Onyeri was found guilty on 17 counts of mail fraud, identity theft, wire fraud, racketeering, witness tampering and the 2015 attempted capital murder of state district court judge, Julie Kocurek. .

Kocurek was in the courtroom both days of the sentencing phase. She is relieved and feels at peace at this time. .

"It's been two years and 11 months and it feels so good to wake up in the morning and to know my family is safe from Mr. Onyeri and his associates," said Kocurek. .

There is no option for parole in the federal court system. Onyeri's attorney, Victor Arana, was trying to get his client a lesser sentence of 30 years. Prosecutors say Onyeri has ten co-conspirators who are still awaiting sentencing.

Onyeri admitted to shooting his initial trial judge, Kocurek, in the driveway of her home, but, he denies attempting to kill, or even injure her. He previously testified he only wanted to scare her.

Why Didn’t You Withdraw Policemen From Aregbesola?' - PDP Asks IGP

The Peoples Democratic Party has asked the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to explain to Nigerians why he failed to withdraw policemen attached to the Governor of Osun State, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, like he did to the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, before the conduct of the Ekiti governorship election.

The party said that the conduct of the police under Idris had shown him to be a partial police boss who was merely interested in the ruling party.


The National Chaairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, who said this in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Friday, recalled that the IGP ordered that all policemen attached to Fayose be withdrawn before the governorship election which held on July 14, 2018.

He also asked Nigerians to remember that the police boss equally withdrew the policemen attached to the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, before the Anambra governorship election "in order to make him vulnerable just because he is not a member of the APC."


Secondus said the police had claimed that the action in the two instances was to allow for the neutrality of the police in the conduct of the election.

He, therefore, wondered why the same thing had not been replicated in Osun State, saying the action of the police had confirmed the position of the PDP that it was a ploy to facilitate the rigging of the election against the PDP in Ekiti State.


He said, "By now, we thought that the IGP would have replaced all the policemen attached to Governor Aregbesola and the State Government House at Osogbo with new ones as he did in Ekiti State.

"Recall that the police also took away the security detail attached to Fayose. He was prone to attacks and all that. But what has happened to the policemen attached to Governor Aregbesola? Nothing. Instead of them being replaced, they have been fortified with policemen from Lagos State and neighbouring friendly states in order to manipulate the outcome of the election.

"It is unfortunate that we have a police force that has become an arm of the ruling party; a police force that is not serving the interest of all Nigerians but a clique.

Iwu Faults INEC on Osun, Says

Guidelines Do not Apply to Governorship 

A former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral  Commission,  Professor Maurice Iwu has faulted the Independent National Electoral Commission's decision to reschedule part of the Osun State governorahip election due to cancellation of some votes.

In a statement, Iwu who said that he invented the inconclusive elections outcomes, particularly where elections did not hold for one reason or the other, said he latter discovered that the proposal violated provisions of the consrirurion and was forced to drop it.

He said: "Actually, during the review of INEC's Elections' Manual, my committee and I as the Chair, invented the inconclusive elections outcomes, particularly where elections did not hold for one reason or the other.

"However, we the initiators of the inconclusive elections realised that our proposal was against the provisions of the 1999 Constitution ( as Amended ), particularly the presidential and the governorship elections and returns.

"Our proposals could be applied only in Senatorial, Federal House of Representatives, and State Assembly elections and returns, for which the Constitution did not specify how these returns should be made.

"In this, what is required by the constitution is that the 'first past the post' and/or that the candidate must have the polled majority of the votes cast.

"Secondly, that the candidate in addition to it, must obtain 25 per cent of the total votes cast in two-third of the LGAs of the state in question or of the states incase of presidential election.

"The electoral act or INEC guide lines cannot supersede the constitutional provisions for that purpose.

"As the Constitution has clearly spelt out the manner and how a return should be made in the cases of governorship or presidential elect ion returns.

Now that the abuse of this tool is becoming obvious, the beneficiaries of this anomaly have refused to listen or adjust accordingly."

HELP,HELP,A COMPROMISED INEC IS MURDERING NIGERIA'S HARD EARNED DEMOCRACY.

The announcement by INEC,that the Osun state election conducted on Saturday,22nd September2018,was inconclusive and the fixing of 27th of September for a so called rerun,is a dangerous subversion and travesty of the electoral process,a blow to our hard earned constitutional democracy and an ominous sign of the farce to expect in 2019-subversion of the people's will.INEC has earned for itself the inglorious reputation of holding inconclusive elections (Kogi,Bayelsa,et al);and working in cahoot with the ruling APC party,always eager to do its dirty electoral bidding,to commit daylight robbery of votes.This they have just done to Adeleke's votes to defeat the will and legitimate franchise of the good people of Osun state.I wholly condemn this ludicrous mockery of our electoral process and constitutionalism.There is no basis whatsoever,whether in law,constitutionalism,or morality,to have declared the election inconclusive.The Constitution of Nigeria and the Electoral Act ONLY  recognise LAWFUL AND VALID VOTES in declaring a candidate winner of an election.This presupposes that some votes would be unlawful and invalid.Consequently,where votes are cancelled or invalidated for any reason howsoever,including for being invalid and unlawful,such votes are immediately and automatically cancelled,deducted and consigned to the dustbin of history.In any case,it was not wholesale results in the election that were voided and cancelled.Only votes that INEC had adjudged illegitimate due to irregularities were voided and cancelled.This cancellation and voidance of illegitimate votes effected all the political parties,not just APC and PDP,but especially Omisore's SDP,whose two strongest fortes in Ife axis were badly effected.Such voided votes are ignored and unreckoned with,for they are a non sequitur.They are as dead as dodo.Having failed to viciously intimidate and rig the elections as they did in Ekiti State,due to the people's courageous resistance,the APC has now used its electoral arm,INEC,to do the unthinkable,that which is clearly illegal,unconstitutional,immoral and a brazen assault on our sensibilities and constitutional democracy.

Section 179(2)(a)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (the grundnorm and supreme law of the land ),is crystal clear and unambiguous that Adeleke and PDP have won and met the electoral requirements to be formally  declared winners of the Osun state election.It provides:

"A candidate for an election to the office of a governor of a state shall be deemed to have been duly elected where,there being two or more candidates-(a) he has the highest number of votes cast at the election;and 

(b) he has not less than one-quarter of all the votes cast in each of least two-thirds of all the local government areas in the state". Adeleke satisfied this provision.

In Osunbor v Oshiomhole (2007) 18 NWLR(part 1065) 32,cancelled votes had been counted and added to PDP/Osunbor's scores.The courts,up to the Supreme Court,held that when votes are cancelled,they are not reckoned with in determining the outcome of such an election.The courts thereafter deducted the invalidated votes and this gave victory to Oshiomhole in the hotly contested election.To avoid disenfranchisement of eligible voters,only votes in areas where election did not hold at all are considered for  the purpose of calculating total votes.Some people may argue,ignorantly,in my humble opinion,that section 69 of the Electoral Act or other guidelines issued by INEC justify this electoral perversion.I will quickly remind such people that those provisions or guidelines are subject to the overriding authority of the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution,which is supreme.The Constitution is the Kabiyesi,Eze and Emir,in the hierarchy of Nigerian laws.All others are like Bales and Chiefs,that must bow before this king.The provisions of the Constitution therefore  clearly override the provisions of the Electoral Act and any guidelines issued by INEC,by virtue of sections 1() and 1(3) of the 1999 Constitution.They are  consequently null and void to the extent of the inconsistency.See the celebrated case of Nyesom Wike v Dakuku Petersude (2016) 7 NWLR (part 1512) 574.It is clear to me that INEC 's decision is more of a political hubris than one anchored on solid laws,whether the Constitution,or Electoral Act.

Collation of all the results in Osun had already been done by INEC in accordance with section 27(1)(a)(v)) and (c) of the Electoral Act, 2010,as altered.The state collation was completed under section 27(d) and the results   ought to have declared Adeleke the winner under section 27(f),having polled 256,219 majority votes to beat APC's candidate who scored 255,309 votes.The provisions of section 69 of the Electoral Act(which in any case,is inferior to section 179(2)) of the Constitution,were thus amply satisfied.The constitutional,legal and moral profanity that INEC has thus engaged by ordering a repeat election is to invalidate the people's valid and legitimate votes,in strange preference for legally voided illegitimate votes that no longer mattered or counted.TheReturning Officer's duty was simply to announce the winner,having declared all the results,and not to usurp the role of the Election Petition Tribunal,by altering the texture and tenor of the outcome,through its order for a rerun.What happens to the legitimate votes of the other candidates who will not participate in the rerun and their electors' will,one may ask? 

By the way,why is INEC changing the goal posts and revising history because APC was roundly defeated in the election? Recall that during the Kogi state bye elections of August,2018,over 19 000 votes were cancelled and voidedThis tremendously outstripped the 12,000 votes difference between the two leading candidates.Yet,in Osun state,only 3,498 votes were cancelled in Orolu,Ife South,Ife North and Osogbo LGAs.How can that affect the humongous votes ganered by Adeleke? PDP and Adeleke should immediately head for the courts to seek an order of mandamus,compelling INEC to declare him winner.Alternatively, he can approach the Election Petition Tribunal with all the votes cast,urging it to declare him winner.He has won his people's hearts with his performance in the Senate and mesmerising dance steps of a teenager. INEC,I beg of you,don't kill our hard earned constitutional democracy on the alter of corruption and official comprise of the ruling party.
