OAU Get New VC

OGUNBODEDE EMERGES OAU VC

A new Vice-Chancellor has emerged to pilot the affairs of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The new VC,  Professor Eyitope Ogungbenro Ogunbodede was announced by Dr. Wale Ogunbiyi, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the ivory tower at the world press conference held at the Institution's Senate building.

Announcing the eleventh Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, the Chairman Governing Council said, "eighteen applicants applied for the coveted job internally while the search team received applications from four outside."

However, "one of the applicant was not shortlisted because he fell short of the stipulated criteria."

"In all, twenty-one were rigorously interviewed and out of it; Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede came first with over 93 points and subsequently, emerged the new Vice-Chancellor."

The new Vice-Chancellor was born in Owo,  Ondo State on 23rd January, 1957.

Had his Bachelor of Science (Honours) Health Sciences in 1981 and Bachelor of Dental Surgery, (B.Ch.D ) in 1985 from the then University of Ife.

He obtained his Master of Public Health (MPH), 1989, Dental Diploma in Public Health, Royal College of Surgeons (DDPH RCS), England, 1992.  Fellowship of The faculty of Dentistry in Dental Public Health, Royal College of Surgeons ( FFD RCS), Ireland, 2011 and Ph.D in 2014.

Ogunbodede had at various times held the position of Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, Provost, College of Health Sciences and Member, Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

He was Lecturer 1 between 1990-1994; Senior Lecturer between 1994-1996; Reader 1996-2000 and became  Professor of Preventive and Community Dentistry on 1st October, 2000.

He initiated the first Senate approved taught course in the Institute, the Diploma in Oral Health Care Programme.

The new VC will take over from the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anthony Elujoba who has been piloting the affairs of the university since July 2016.

Meanwhile, the entire University Community was erupted in joy as the new VC was announced.
